The 1932 P&M range was enhanced by the release of the Model 40, a 250cc single. This model had the engine inclined in the frame, so as still to be called a sloper, ohv and the oil was retained in the front of the crankcase. Ignition was rear mounted gear driven magneto. The pushrods were enclosed as was the rockers but the valve gear was exposed. Later in the Red Panther he valve gear was enclosed in a large and heavy cast iron head. The redwing is a delightful looking Panther. the engine was willing and revved well, but for the sporty types the bike was held back by a small 3 speed gear box and hand change. The two port head is the Model 40 (the model shown in these photos), the single port is the Model 30. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I do.
