The Kiev was based on the BMW layout, firstly a 750cc side-valve model with reverse gear and a driven sidecar wheel built up to 1983; and secondly a 650c OHV machine which was introduced in 1968. The Kiev is known as the Dnepr, Cossack or Phoenix in Western marketplaces.
