XR05/TR500 cylinders

All,

Just got this from an Ebay seller in Japan. It a cylinder block from a TR500/XR05 racing bike. It's carved from a block of aluminum and then the cylinders are hard chromed/nikasil plated. Given that the transfers are at 9 and 3, Suzuki must have machine up the crankcases differently to match. Unfortunately the seller did not have the head for the block. I'll have to track down a head as well as figure out what pistons will work and get a set of cases modified. I'll work up a port map in the near future as well.

The cylinder is marked XR0526

The first thing I wondered is if this is one of the water cooled TR cylinders Muzza owned? Suzuki brought out the water cooled cylinders in 1973 and revised them slightly for '74 and again for '75. I'd guess these are first year cylinders based on the 26 but it's just a guess on my part. Anyone know for sure?



The cylinder also has 83B43 engraved in it and I wish I knew what this meant.



There was something written on the side in marker but it's so faded I can't read it. Plus it could have been added any time in the 35 plus years in between...

My old barrels are very different from yours, which I suspect is a MKIII barrel.

I have the port specs somewhere...I'll have to look them up.

Thanks! Looks like the earliest water cooled TR barrels kept the offset transfers of the stock air cooled barrels. Feel free to add my pictures to the database if you like!
