    Thomas, I once spoke to a guy who used the 380 and 550 bottom ends to make water-cooled production racers (called Spartons). He said the bottom end is strong, but the first problem with high power & rpm is the crank starts to 'spread' and destroys the bearings. The main bearings are only a press-fit in the crank cases, and these need to be pegged into place, the crank needs welding and race bearings fitted if you intend to go beyond 8000 rpm regularly, although it is strong enough to handle occasional 8500rpm.
