    Steve:

"NOS" is the bike/automotive world's abbreviation of the term "New Old Stock". In other words, it's never been used but has been sitting on the dealer's or manufacturer's shelf waiting to be bought. Sometimes a dealer will have parts for an older bike that were ordered/paid for by some guy who never picked them up. Usually after 1 year, they belong to the dealer again. NOS parts are TYPICALLY, although not always, found in smaller dealerships. Of the Japanese manufacturers, NOS stuff is very important to owners of old Yams, Kawis and Suzukis...in that order of priority. Yamaha is (in)famous for deleting parts for models any older than about 5 years old. Honda, on the other hand, STILL makes most pieces for bikes back to the 1969 model year, but only the larger selling models.
Now that I know what you are interested in I won't bother with the NOS tank search; instead I will see if i can find a semi-nice used one.
