Manuals are very frequently for sale on ebay (search suzuki 500) by Clymer, Chilton, Hayes, etc. They are all pretty good. Best is the actual Suzuki shop manual probably. You can also get a CD manual online - Check out Muzza's website at http://members.nbci.com/tr500/t500index.htm by all means if you have not yet, and the links therein. I will say that replacing the piston and associated parts is quite easy on these bikes, and hopefully your cylinder walls aren't damaged, but they might be. Make sure to check them well.
