The Tempest advanced air warfare tactics and
strategy by correcting the faults and improving the benefits of its
predecessor, the Typhoon. It was the last of the Hawker Aircraft Company's
land-based single-seat piston-engined fighters and proved an effective air
combat fighter and ground attack platform. From it evolved the carrier-borne
Sea Fury which served around the world for more than a decade.
