About this site

The AWM runs a tour to Gallipoli each year to co-incide with the Dawn Service on 25 April each year. The tour is an intensive examination of the Gallipoli Campaign, covering the naval battle of the Dardanelles, the landings at Cape Helles, Suvla and ANZAC cove.

The main focus of the 14 day tour is the Australian involvement at Gallipoli, but due attention and recognition is given to the role of the British, French, Turks, Germans, Indians, Ghurkas and New Zealanders.

The 2007 tour was led by an Australian War Memorial Senior historian (Ashely Ekins) and he was well organised, considerate, professional and informative. As a group we were privileged to have the assistance of Ashley. In addition we had a caring and knowledgeable local guide Serap Sacik Akis who did a wonderful job in looking after the group.

As well we were fortunate to also receive the advice and wisdom of Kenan Celik, a noted Turkish scholar on the Gallipoli campaign.
