When part of the parapet had been wrecked and some men blown out of the trench, Private F. Jewson, of the 9th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment, crawled out under very heavy shell-fire to rescue the wounded and bring in the dead. For his conspicuous gallantry he was awarded the D.C.M.
